Seattle Massage Parlors: Global human trafficking news roundup (January, 22, 2010)

Texas: The state attorney general announced that the law enforcement effort would be strengthened to target human traffickers. According to the US state department report, more than 17500 people are trafficked into the country annually from Asia, Central and South America, and Eastern Europe. 20 % of them are from Texas. 
Canada: A film director uncovers the reality of human trafficking in Canada. She interviews traffickers and smugglers who transport people illegally from Seattle to Vancouver. The victims are often subject to sexual exploitation and physical abuse in the human cargo. A smuggler makes about $4000 per person’s body. 
Idaho: Four massage parlors were busted for prostitution by the undercover cops. Four women were arrested for prostitution. The police said that they were working at different massage parlors with “no license, had several health code violation, and offered sex for cash.” However, the police has not found the evidence of human trafficking, yet.
