Vanapalli, 28, was arrested last year after responding to an 18-year-old Mountlake Terrace woman’s Craigslist ad offering massages. When the woman met Vanapalli at a Redmond apartment on Oct. 17, 2008, he pointed a gun at her, flashed a badge and told her she would be arrested for prostitution if she did not have sex with him, according to court charging documents.
The Redmond apartment was leased to a friend of Vanapalli’s who worked with him at Microsoft, police said.
Investigators discovered that Vanapalli had pulled a similar ploy earlier that month when he contacted an escort on Craigslist and asked her to meet him at his Bellevue apartment, charging papers said.
When the 19-year-old woman met him there on Oct. 1 he told her that he was a police officer and that he would arrest her for prostitution if she did not have sex with him for free, court documents said.
