Developers propose sports complex for Town Center

Developers envision a large private sporting facility with a pool, basketball and racquetball courts just north of Sammamish City Hall, but will need the city to make some zoning exceptions for it to proceed.
As envisioned by Seattle-based Gramor Development and Caron Architecture, the Sammamish Sport Club would be close to 65,000 square feet on approximately 3.5 acres southwest of the corner of Southeast 4th Street and 228th Avenue Southeast. Though the exact details of the project are still being ironed out, a 9-lane swimming pool, sauna, aerobic studio and massage parlor are among the amenities mentioned in conceptual materials presented to the City Council at a June 15 meeting.
Radim Blazej, owner of Caron Architecture, said the facility could fulfill the community’s indoor swimming needs without a huge capital investment. He suggested it could be a joint venture between the city and the developers.

One lobbyist, or one government relations representative, can protest unfair legislation til the cows come home. I don’t think that has near as much impact as it would if 100, or 1000, massage therapists banded together and showed up at a city council meeting or a session of the legislature where the laws that affect us are being decided.
Haven’t we had enough years of the old massage parlor mentality? Haven’t we had enough years of being treated like we’re all prostitutes, and not being taken seriously as a member of the health care team? I think we have. That’s why I keep harping on this subject. It’s been gratifying to me in the past few weeks that I’ve received some comments from therapists saying that they are glad I jolted them into taking some kind of action. I wish the rest would follow suit.

Behind the FCC is another imposing and historic structure which is unfortunately in a very dilapidated state. This French Colonial building used to house the taxation department and has been around for some time. The stucco building with French-style eaves and doorways conveys opulence despite its rather faded glory. The FCC has bought the building and is reportedly planning to renovate the place for a restaurant, art gallery and library in the near future.
A lazy day down by the river
On a recent holiday in Phnom Penh, I stayed in a small hotel overlooking the river, in the area known as Sisowath Quay. Third suspect faces prostitution charges
LODI – A Lodi man has been named as a third person suspected of running a prostitution ring from Washington state to California, allegedly using massage parlors as fronts for brothels, according to federal court documents.
Carl Hencmann, 65, of Lodi appeared in U.S. District Court in Sacramento on Monday, officials said, facing prostitution and money-laundering charges. He was ordered jailed in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Federal authorities believe Hencmann and two business partners – Tham Nguyen, 48, and Suong Tran, 51, both of Burien, Wash. – hired women from out of state to work as prostitutes and moved them among massage parlors in Lodi, Sacramento and Washington state, and a legal brothel in Nevada.
In Lodi, the businesses targeted were the AAH Spa at 20 N. Cherokee Lane and Valley Spa at 321 N. California St.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Two people from Washington state operated massage parlors in Sacramento and Lodi that were actually fronts for prostitution, immigration officials alleged Thursday.
Tham Nguyen, 48, and Suong Tran, 51, were taken into custody Thursday after agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with local authorities, executed federal search warrants at the businesses. A federal grand jury issued a two-county indictment Wednesday.
Immigration officials said the pair operated AAH Spa on North Cherokee Lane in Lodi, Valley Spa on North California Street in Lodi, and Healthy Living Nails and Spa on 47th Avenue in Sacramento. They also operated spas in Washington and a legal brothel in Nevada, immigration officials claimed.

SEATTLE — Two people have been arrested, accused of operating three massage parlors in Western Washington that were fronts for prostitution, said a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Burien residents Tham Nguyen, 48, and Suong Tran, 51, were arrested Thursday. They face charges of conspiracy to transport individuals in furtherance of prostitution and conspiracy to engage in money laundering, ICE said.
According to court documents, Nguyen and Tran operated three alleged massage parlors: Bamboo Sauna, in Burien; Fantasy Health Spa, in Kirkland; and the Sauna Relax Station, in Auburn.
Documents also said they operated three similar businesses in California and a legal brothel in Nevada.
An investigation revealed that beginning in 2007, the defendants recruited women from out-of-state to work as prostitutes and arranged for the women to be moved among their businesses, generating substantial profits, ICE said.
