Charge: Convicted arsonist impersonates Seattle cop, kidnaps prostitute
‘Last time I told the truth … I spent four years in prison,’ man allegedly tells police
A Seattle man sent to prison as a teen after a yearlong crime spree is back behind bars on allegations that he tried to extort sex from an escort by impersonating a police officer.
Charged Monday with kidnapping and other crimes following his arrest last week, Julian Daniel Tarver, 25, stands accused of holding the escort at his Greenwood neighborhood apartment for more than three hours while claiming to be a Seattle police officer.
“The defendant’s willingness to impersonate law enforcement presents a real danger to the community,” said Sean O’Donnell, a King County senior deputy prosecutor.
“His conduct involves impersonating a Seattle police officer, threatening the victim that she would be shot, holding her against her will for hours and attempting to extort sex from her in exchange for her release,” …

About 1,000 people attended and hundreds volunteered – Christ’s Place Church had about 200 volunteers at Sunday’s event.
Four live bands played. Free food was served. Kids could play games, jump in a bounce house and get their faces painted. They could also sit in a police cruiser and learn fire safety.
The Everett neighborhood has had a bad rap over the years, said Anderson-Sifuentez, who has lived there since the 1970s. But neighborhood organizations are working to change stereotypes.
“There’s a perception that there is not stability in this neighborhood,” she said, “but that’s not true.”
The late afternoon festival was along E Street outside the Nebraska Family Council house, which helped host the festival.
In August 2007, the Nebraska Family Council renovated the house which had been used by drug dealers and prostitutes.

He had known Burden for about a year and had allowed her to live in his home for about a month. A few weeks before the killing, he reported to police that she’d stolen his television. He told members of his church that Burden was abusive and threatened him when he didn’t give her money.
Burden reportedly told investigators that Davis didn’t drink or do drugs and treated her well.
“He’s just so perfect. He doesn’t do nothing (sic) wrong ever. … He just goes to church and goes to work. Then comes home.”
Even so, Burden at trial likely would have tried to convince jurors that she was the victim of abuse. The plea agreement spares the slain man’s family from having to listen to such claims, Stern said.
Castleberry said he knows plea agreements can be unpopular but they serve a good purpose when victims’ families are spared listening to ugly testimony.
Burden has five prior felonies, all for property crimes. She has struggled with addiction and supported herself through prostitution, said her public defender, Don Wackerman.

You’re hearing about the show, YNTGL. At a live show, it’s not just about the music; stage presence is a factor as well. And Tucker came off like a high-end callgirl. I was embarrassed for her (so was the audience, from what I could tell), much as I admire her obvious musical talents. If that’s perpetuating a stereotype, Tucker is as guilty of it as I am. Had she broken the stereotype, nothing would have been perpetuated. I get the “if you got it, flaunt it” theory, but Tucker’s got enough vocal talent to not stoop to such levels.

We Americans are a casual people. Egalitarian as we are, liking to believe we’re as good as the next man even if we aren’t, we depend less on uniforms than citizens of some other countries to establish ourselves in the social hierarchy.
But what about employees of McDonalds or Burger King, for example? Do they resent the uniforms that announce their position at the bottom of the economic ladder? In his survey, Fussell found nothing but universal pride in a uniform of any kind. If nothing else, a uniform announces that the wearer at least has a job and that he’s associated with a successful enterprise.

Lacey Carroll entered the plea Monday in Bellevue District Court, after prosecutors agreed to drop charges of prostitution and filing a false police report.
A judge ordered the aspiring model to pay a $953 fine, complete 30 hours of community service, and participate in an alcohol-awareness class. The court will eventually dismiss the obstruction charges against Carroll and clear her record if she stays out of trouble.
The former Miss Washington USA runner-up allegedly asked a 31-year-old Mukilteo businessman to pay $2,000 for sex with her at a Bellevue hotel following a night of heavy drinking.
The man said he refused, but Carroll told police an altogether different story, saying he had drugged and then tried to rape her.

Federal prosecutors stopped investigating Copperfield for rape after learning of the alleged prostitution case, but they have not said whether that decision was linked with the Bellevue matter.

… You have to imagine that Lacey Caroll, one-time professional beauty pageant contestant, is handling this situation with grace and poise. Of course, grace may be a bridge too far given that Caroll, perhaps best known for accusing and then suing magician David Copperfield over her alleged 2007 rape, is pleading guilty to charges related to a case in which she allegedly offered a man sex in exchange for cash.
Caroll, the runner up for Miss Washington USA 2010, was working as a waitress in Bellevue last December when she was arrested by on charges of prostitution. Prosecutors said that during a drunken encounter at a Bellevue hotel with one of her 31-year-old customers, Caroll allegedly offered the man sex in exchange for $2,000.
After he refused, she left their room. The man later told police that after going downstairs, he saw Caroll in the lobby telling the hotel staff that she had been “taken advantage of.”
Surveillance photos from the hotel lobby and witness accounts by the hotel staff told a different story. Bellevue prosecutors eventually charged Caroll with prostitution, filing a false police report, and police obstruction. Her lawsuit against Copperfield was dropped shortly thereafter.

Man in Aurora prostitution case served time for Garfield High case

The young woman left a note asking for help and for someone to call the police. “Also in the note was that Hargress was forcing (the young woman) to prostitute and she would try to escape if possible,” Detective Harry James wrote in a probable cause document.

Investigators were told the girl met Hargress two weeks prior and he allegedly said that he would hurt her and people she lived work if she wouldn’t be a prostitute. The young woman told police she watched him beat another female and he threatened to do the same to her if she didn’t have sex with him.
Hargress told her what to charge working on Aurora and threatened to sexually assault her if she held back money, according to police. Court records show the 21-year-old was arrested for prostitution May 26 and bailed out by Hargress.
