Seattle Adult Entertainment: ‘Lady in Blue’ reportedly haunts old Port Townsend hotel that was once a …

Some people believe she is Miss Claire, one of the prostitutes who lived and worked in the building at 1004 Water St., built in 1889, after it became a brothel in 1925.
Each of the rooms in the hotel, which was renovated and turned into a Victorian hotel in 1977, is named for one of those who worked there during its less-respectable time.
The Lady in Blue is always sensed or seen in Room 4, said Bob Masuret, 54, a desk clerk who has worked at the hotel for four years.

In 2010, Paranormal Investigations of Historic America, based in Monroe, brought recorders and equipment to explore beneath the streets of the Port Angeles and in the Family Shoe Store at 130 W. Front St. — once a downtown brothel — Michael’s Divine Dining at 117B E. First St. and the Museum at the Carnegie, 207 S. Lincoln St.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: David Guterson’s new book is dazzling

Posted on October 31st, 2011 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

Ambition and desire drive the plot — plus there’s a whole lot of sex in this book — along with the fundamental irony that the road to hell is often paved with good intentions. “Ed King” begins in 1962, the year of the Seattle World’s Fair. Actuary Walter Cousins hires Diane Burroughs, a British exchange student, as a nanny after Walter’s wife is hospitalized for a mental breakdown.
“At just the right moment, this dazzling girl, brimming with pluck and perpetual good humor, domestically energetic, chipper, and playful, had landed on Walter’s doorstep. What a miracle!” Guterson writes.
And what luck — but not the good kind. A con artist, Diane gets pregnant with Walter’s child, extorts lifetime support payments from him, runs away and leaves her baby son on a Portland doorstep.
She moves up and on, using high-class prostitution as an entree to marriage to the heir to a Northwest sporting-goods dynasty, which allows her to lavish time and money on slowing the ravages of age.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Friday Jolt: Weekly Tries to Distance Itself From Backpage Controversy

Posted on October 31st, 2011 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

Today’s Loser: Seattle Weekly
Nearly three months after Mayor Mike McGinn ordered the city to pull all advertising from the Seattle Weekly in a battle over the paper’s association with Backpage.com—which McGinn has called an “accelerant” of juvenile prostitution—the Weekly’s publisher came begging to the city, making a concerted effort to distance the Weekly from Backpage, and win back the more than $150,000 the paper lost when the city pulled its ads.
“Wanted to reach out and see if we could begin some dialogue regarding print business from the City,” Weekly publisher Kenny Stocker wrote in an email to McGinn’s chief of staff, Julie McCoy, in September. “I wanted to see if we could discuss print specific business and not digital business in Seattleweekly.com…and not have any ads run where backpage.com is represented.”

Seattle Adult Entertainment: ‘It makes me sick’: Children sold for sex on Seattle streets

Posted on October 31st, 2011 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

… Everything he ever told me was just lies,” says “Natalie,” who doesn’t want her real name used or her photo to be shown. “Pimps know that they have got you all tangled up in their lies.”
Her broken-hearted mother, “Lynne,” says – no more. It’s too late to save her daughter – now she wants to save yours.

“Within 24 hours she was being sold on Backpage.com. Within 36 hours she had a pimp,” says Lynne.
Backpage.com is accused of being a lucrative playground for pimps pushing their under-aged product. Village Voice Media owns the site, as well as Seattle Weekly, where similar ads are placed in the back.

“Her pimp would wait for her outside,” says Lynne.
The pimp parked outside was Baruti Hopson – 16 years older than the girl he raped and sold over and over again.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Recall petition targets Everett School Board member

Posted on October 31st, 2011 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

Russell said his comments from an Oct. 11 meeting –the ones cited in the recall letter– were directed toward Olson’s efforts to put documents into meeting minutes that he believed were unrelated to what actually took place at the meeting. He said it’s a way for Olson to work around the board’s majority to pursue her own agenda without needing another director’s support.
Russell is the board’s vice president. He was elected to his first term in 2009. He serves as pastor of Everett’s Central Lutheran Church.
Russell questioned how seriously the recall letter should be taken in light of statements Reynolds made at a Sept. 13 School Board meeting. During public comments, Reynolds spoke up for Olson and compared the actions of other board members “with a wife beater or a pimp.”
