Seattle Strip Clubs: Bissell, Smith honored as Bremerton Heroes

… He wanted me to tape his ankles, so I did,” said Smith, who suffered a stroke and a heart attack in 2005.
Smith, who retired from Bremerton High in 1997, estimated he taped 6,000 ankles over his 30-year career.
“I never had a job,” he said. “I had an experience, an experience I wouldn’t pass up again.”
Smith recalls Bissell’s band marching through the school’s halls, playing the fight song — “Anchors Aweigh” — on a Monday following a win in the East-West football game.
That typifies the kind of spirit and support Bissell brought to West and the UW, where his bands for known for their innovative, colorful and sometimes outrageous halftime shows.
After raising money for new uniforms at Washington, he had his band members peel out of the old uniforms to the music of “The Stripper,” at one infamous Husky halftime show in 1977.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: In Theater News: Marathon Sessions & Renaissance Town

What he did was more than a mere show of stamina, and reaction has been both rapturous and dismissive; while I did not catch the show in its entirety (there was a feed of the performance on Live Stream), what I did see delivered on the promise of a master storytelling weaving a tale on a grand canvas. Imperfect and digressive as often as it was engrossing and charming (again, based on the portions I watched), the evening bore the marks of the various influences that went into the creation of this event: Chekhov, Phillip K. Dick, Warren Zevon, Disney among many others.
If Live Stream’s habits are any indication, there’s a small chance that the entire performance will be available at a future time. We’ll keep our eyes peeled, particularly because we still don’t know what significance Wim Wenders has on the overall story. When last we remember his being mentioned, he was the surprise client for an alternate dimension version of Mike Daisey who was a hermaphroditic prostitute.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: SLIDESHOW: Papa’s Pub and Grill in White Center is trying to overcome a dark …

The building used to be home to the Hideway Restaurant, then changed to be Joe’s Diner, then became Brewski’s and since 2009 has been Papa’s Pub and Grill.
To a large extent Papa’s and other places in White Center have simply been subject to an influx of undesirable people, forced there by law enforcement elsewhere.
“What I believe is, ” Weatherhogg said, ” that the Seattle Police Department booted people out of the CD area and elsewhere, so when the county decided to get rid of the sub station down the street there was really no police presence in White Center. It became the place where everyone could congregate and no one would get caught. But now the police presence coming and with that recent shooting (Sweetheart Failatusi) King County has forced more police presence in the evenings, which has helped a lot with drug dealing and prostitution.”

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Tacoma man sentenced to nine years in prison for human trafficking

Posted on September 29th, 2011 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

A 24-year-old Tacoma man was sentenced to nine years in prison today for human trafficking.
U.S. District Judge Robert J. Bryan also sentenced Lashad Alexander to three years of supervised release and imposed a $130,000 restitution fee.
Alexander pleaded guilty in February to forcing a 17-year-old girl to work for him as a prostitute.
He recruited the teen in 2005 and she worked for him until Lakewood police arrested Alexander in March 2010 after the girl called her brother for help, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Alexander occasionally hit the teen, forced her to hand over her earnings, helped her post sex advertisements on the Internet and bought her condoms, motel rooms, cell phones and clothing, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Everett played key part in history of Prohibition

Posted on September 29th, 2011 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

A wave of new regulations followed, said Daniel Okrent, a journalist whose book, “Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition,” served as a backbone for the PBS film.
“Because you couldn’t drink at all, you could drink anytime and anyone could drink,” he says in the film.
That wasn’t the case once Prohibition was lifted. State laws were established, including the liquor distribution rules being contested by this year’s Initiative 1183.
Drinking age, alcohol content, rules about the sale of liquor all came about after Prohibition and remain issues to this day.
Studying Clark’s book or watching the PBS series may change people’s perspectives on today’s divisive political landscape.
One thing is clear: The allure of the roaring ’20s and the mythology of the 18th Amendment still are strong selling points.
The building at 1414 Hewitt Ave., today a restaurant, once may have been a brothel or speakeasy, owner Rishi Brown said.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Backpage.com Scandal Makes Unlikely Allies

Posted on September 29th, 2011 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

This summer, Mayor McGinn began a crusade against the online classifieds service Backpage.com (owned by Village Voice Media, parent company of, among others, the Seattle Weekly). According to McGinn and a national network of anti-human trafficking activists, the “adult” section of the site is a frequent conduit for coercive underage prostitution. Though some of the campaigners’ facts are in dispute, it’s undeniably true that Backpage requires less proof of an adult advertiser’s age than comparable sites, and that the site has cropped up in investigations of child prostitution. In June, the Mayor demanded that the site reform these practices, and help police curb the online trafficking of children.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Watching “The Guard”

Posted on September 29th, 2011 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

This is largely due to the shambling presence of the great Irish actor Brendan Gleeson, who plays Sgt. Gerry Boyle, a corrupt, lonely cop who might or might not possess a core of decency. Boyle works in Connemara Gaeltacht, a rural, Gaelic-speaking region populated by people who, like Boyle, would prefer to be left alone and have a deep-rooted suspicion of outsiders and big-city folk. In the film’s opening scenes, Boyle is taking a nap in his patrol car when a deadly crash wakes him from his slumber; within moments of arriving on the scene, he has fished around in one of the victim’s pockets, and stolen his drugs. We also see him drink on the job, and forego investigating a murder to hang out with prostitutes. But he’s kind to the prostitutes and a loving son to his dying mother, so we sense he’s not that bad a guy.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: McGinn Details Cuts For 2012 Budget

Posted on September 29th, 2011 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

McGinn: “But we’re not approaching the police budget by measuring, simply, how many officers we have. We’re approaching it by asking, What are the most efficient ways to achieve our outcomes? In this case, keeping the public safe and creating safe communities.”
McGinn says officers are meeting goals for neighborhood policing. He praises police for improving their 911 response time.
McGinn also points to recent data that show Seattle’s crime rate is at its lowest level in 55 years.
Tim Burgess: “So, while the mayor talks about crime being down, that’s part of the story.”
That’s City Councilmember Tim Burgess. He agrees that major crimes are down in the city, but other lower–level crimes have gone up.
Burgess: “Drug and narcotic offenses — whether that’s trafficking or use — prostitution, graffiti, simple assault, breaking into cars, petty theft. If we’re not going to hire more officers, then we need new strategies.”

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Burien council to vote on declaring White Center annexation intent on Oct. 3

Posted on September 29th, 2011 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

Shaw said he wants “an iron-clad guarantee” that the state sales tax credit would be available to Burien for ten years. The state legislature has authorized a sales tax credit of up to $5 million per year for ten years to the city that annexes the unincorporated area.
But council candidate Bob Edgar warned the state may withdraw the credit because of the state’s budget shortfall. McGilton said several cities receive the credit.
City Attorney Craig Knutson said the sales tax credit would not be available for capitol projects, except for maintenance.
Knutson also noted that there is no state statute that requires the housing authority to pay mitigation costs. Shaw said the authority established a precedent by agreeing to pay Burien $188,000 as part of the Lora Lake Apartments settlement.
The city attorney said he would have to research whether adult businesses already established in White Center could be forced to close if Burien annexes the area.

Cable TV legal commentator says she didn’t have a wardrobe malfunction this week when more than a few thought a breast popped out of her dress.
It became the “nip slip” that went viral.
“It’s going to say on my gravestone that it did not happen,” she told CNN. “I contend that it was the lining of my dress, not my nipple, as has been alleged. I deny it, deny it deny it.”
Her proof? Built-in redundancies.
After all, she said she was wearing pasties — which she said made her feel like she was a “strip bar” — an “industrial strength bra” and a bra built in her dress.
