CHARLES CORTES, Kent Reporter

Former University of Washington basketball player Venoy Overton had his pre-trial hearing continued to Sept. 27 as he faces a charge of second-degree promoting prostitution along Pacific Highway in Kent.

Overton, 22, of Seattle, posted bail June 30 after about two weeks in the county jail in Kent. He pleaded not guilty June 30 to the charge of second-degree promoting prostitution.

Kent Police began their investigation of Overton May 20 when undercover officers contacted an 18-year-old woman for prostitution activity on Pacific Highway South, a well-known area for prostitution in Kent. That woman told police that Overton had arranged for her to work the streets as a prostitute, according to charging papers.
Kent Police arrested Overton June 16 in Seattle for investigation of second-degree promoting prostitution.

… We don’t want to be in a position … where we just pick up shell casings at the next scene,” Satterberg said, calling the $1.4 million package “a smart expenditure of our funds” to quickly respond to the “simmering tension” that threatens to erupt in more gang violence.
The Sheriff’s Office estimates there are 140 criminal street gangs with more than 10,000 members in King County. Although overall crime has decreased in recent years, gang-related crime has increased 165 percent since 2005.
Satterberg’s office has seen an increase in gang-related violence over the past three years. There were a total of 29 gang-related homicides in 2008 and 2009, plus 200 reported gang-related shootings during that same period.
Gangs also are involved in prostitution rings, narcotics trafficking and various property crimes, such as burglaries and car thefts.

“Let’s be clear about this, prostitution is a form of human trafficking, a form of human slavery,” McKenna said at a news conference.

EVERETT, Wash. — Undercover police surveillance video released Thursday shows baristas exposing themselves and putting on early morning strip shows to more than a dozen paying customers at a coffee stand near South Everett.
A months-long investigation was launched late last year after Edmonds police received several complaints about baristas exposing themselves to customers at Java Juggs espresso stands in Snohomish County.
Company owner Carmela Panico is accused of prostitution and one count of permitting prostitution for what detectives uncovered at one of the coffee stands in Edmonds.
But last week, prosecutors filed a new charge of lewd conduct against Panico and co-worker Krystal Wagner for what detectives found during an undercover investigation at one of the coffee stands in unincorporated Snohomish County near South Everett.

Seattle Strip Clubs: Seattle Cops Release Video Of Stripping Baristas As Part Of Investigation (SFW)

After nine months of investigating a drive-thru espresso stand in Seattle accused of operating as a fully-nude strip club, the police have released this video of the “hot” and “steamy” action at Java Juggs.
The grainy footage shows an older dude leaning out of his car to vigorously rub the ass of a barista. She pulls no shots of espresso, though she does motorboat the driver. He places an unknown sum of money in her cleavage; she smiles a lot, and occasionally moves her breasts around with her hands.
She’s clothed the entire time, leading us to believe that the only real outcome of this video is that the dude in the ball cap will be sufficiently shamed into either going to a real strip club (might we suggest this one?), or putting internet porn to more active use.

Seattle Escorts: Addressing Youth Violence From A To Z

Lt. Hayes also believes that the problem stems from lack of positive role models. For William Lowe, a lot of the responsibility goes back into roots, churches and individual homes. Somewhere along the way weve gone away from basics and home training. We have to get back to that, says Lowe.
According to Bruce Knutson, the Director of Juvenile Court Services, many kids become involved with gangs because they dont have much hope, or many positive role models to emulate. As a result, he says, they turn to whatever exists within the community that can help them belong, which is usually gang involvement.
Because of the bastardization of blackness, according to Evans, the youth see being Black in terms of being a gangster, pimp or player, which in turn leads to the idolizing of a gang lifestyle.
Abdulalim also recognizes this, and agrees that some young people have skewed priorities. I fault a lot of rappers, all they talk about now is money, women and pimping, says Abdulalim.

Baristas charged for showing breasts

EDMONDS, Wash., Aug. 25 (UPI) — A Washington woman who police say operates a drive-thru coffee shop with a stripper pole has been charged with lewd conduct, police say.
Carmela Panico, 49, along with six of her baristas, were charged by Snohomish County prosecutors on Wednesday for doing sexually explicit dances at the coffee stand Java Jugs, Seattlepi.com reported.
The Edmonds Police Department investigation of the stand, which went on for months, included undercover work and surveillance. The indictment states a 9 hour surveillance video shows Panico and another barista doing pole dances for tipping customers — including flashing their breasts and letting customers touch them.
An undercover officer, identified as “Detective Frausto,” reported that he paid $20 for coffee that came with a pole dance from an unidentified employee.
