John Michael McDonaghs The Guard has all the reliable
hallmarks of a crime thriller police corruption, drug trafficking, blackmail,
and murder but at its heart, its a wickedly funny buddy cop movie. What makes
it even funnier is that its also in part a fish out of water story; two
policemen from different worlds, literal and figurative, must join forces if
theyre to successfully take on a gang of international drug smugglers. One is
an eccentric police officer from a small village in Ireland. This would be
Sergeant Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleeson). He doesnt play by the rules, if I may
be allowed a descriptive cliché. He has a questionable sense of humor, and his
personality can only be described as confrontational. You will often see him at
the pub, either drinking or playing a violent shoot-em-up arcade game. He has a
taste for young prostitutes, two of whom are more than happy to do business with
him.

SEATTLE (AP) — A smoky accidental fire at the building that formerly housed one of Seattle’s most notorious strip clubs has caused $650,000 damage.
Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore says the Thursday night blaze at the former Rick’s Nightclub likely started with electrical wiring in the ceiling. No one was inside and no one was injured.
Workers were inside earlier in the day doing electrical work and painting.
Rick’s was seized by federal agents as part of a racketeering investigation into the late Frank Colacurcio Sr. The building was auctioned off last month for $2.35 million.
The Seattle Times says it was scheduled to reopen Aug. 5 as DreamGirls at Ricks. Moore says the new owners say they have insurance.

SEATTLE — A two-alarm blaze torched the former home of Rick’s strip club on Thursday.
The structure in the 11300 block of Lake City Way NE caught on fire around 7:30 p.m. Three contract workers had been in the building earlier in the day, but they’d left by the time flames broke out.

Rick’s was seized as part of the racketeering prosecution of Frank Colacurcio Sr., his son Frank Jr. and their associates. The elder Colacurcio died last year, and his son pleaded guilty, agreeing to forfeit more than $1 million and his interest in four strip clubs and the group’s nearby Talents West office, which also was auctioned late last month.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: San Fran police find hangun used by person of interest in Seattle killing

San Francisco police believe Harding accidentally shot himself as he tried to fire a round at officers, who had wounded him in the leg during a gunfight after police tried to stop him for not paying a subway fare.
The bullet that entered his neck and lodged in his head was from a .380-caliber handgun, authorities said, and San Francisco police do not use .380-caliber weapons.
Harding was a person of interest in a South Seattle shooting that left 19-year-old TaNaya Gilbert dead and three others wounded.
A Seattle police spokesman said he did not have information on the caliber of the gun used in the shooting of Gilbert. No weapon was recovered in that case, Seattle police Det. Mark Jamieson said.
In April, Harding was released from a Washington state prison after he served 22 months for attempting to promote prostitution involving a 14-year-old girl in King County.

“They’re doing it for sport. They’re doing it for money,” Urquhart said. “They’re doing it for blood and it just drives me and other deputies up the wall, that they would treat dogs like this. It’s horrible, absolutely horrible.” The 26-year-old suspect, identified by sources as Anthony Lee Thompson, was booked into the King County Jail on an arrest warrant for escaping from community custody. Urquhart says the man has prior convictions for promoting prostitution, robbery, and felon in possession of a handgun. Detectives believe the apartment unit was used for illegal dog fighting, and based on evidence recovered, prostitution activity as well, Urquhart said, adding the investigation is still ongoing and charges are likely.
