Seattle Strip Clubs: If You Bought Rick’s for $2.35 Million, Please Come Forward

Rick’s, the crown jewel of Lake City Way, became the property of the government when its owner, everyone’s favorite Danny DeVito look-alike and mob boss, Frank Colacurcio Sr., was nabbed for the last time, following a complex sting and plenty of headline-grabbing news. Now, Rick’s is moving on to a new chapter. This morning, the AP ran a story about yesterday’s auction, which was held at the strip club itself, on a stage that used to host strippers. From the article:

Who is this Audi driver? Some in the crowd at the auction were speculating that the owners of Déjà Vu had placed the final bid, though the attorney for the purchaser (that would be the attorney who represents someone who just dropped more than $2 million on a strip club) declined to say anything other than that the winning bidder did not own that particular chain of clubs.

Seattle Strip Clubs: 2 charged in Seattle plot detained pending trial

Uncle Sam, having no interest in running a cabaret, has sold one of Seattle’s most notorious strip clubs. On Wednesday, the federal government got rid of Rick’s on Lake City Way for $2.35 million at an auction. The property was seized last fall by investigators as part of a wide-ranging racketeering investigation of Frank Colacurcio, Seattle’s most famous organized-crime figure. Paul Baxley of the U.S. Marshal’s declined to say who bought the club. But he called the sale a successful one. He says the government was hoping for $2 million. The auction took place at the club, with the auctioneer calling out buyers from a stage where strippers used to dance. No cameras were allowed inside auction to protect the bidder’s privacy. Another one of Colacurcio’s properties was auctioned off for $600,000.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Ex-University of Washington basketball player Venoy Overton pleads not guilty …

Venoy Overton pleaded not guilty Thursday to a charge of second-degree promoting prostitution in connection with an 18-year-old woman who he allegedly drove to Pacific Highway in Kent to earn money through sex with men customers. Overton, 22, had his bail reduced by King County Superior Court Judge Cheryl Carey to $25,000 from $150,000 after defense attorney James Bible argued the former University of Washington point guard has “strong ties to this community” and “doesn’t have significant criminal history.” Bible had hoped to get Overton released on personal recognizance rather than posting any type of bail. Overton has been in the county jail with $150,000 bail since Kent Police arrested him June 16 in South Seattle for investigation of second-degree promoting prostitution. “We hope so,” Bible said during an interview after the arraignment if Overton would be able to post the $25,000 bail to get out of jail. …

Ex-Washington player pleads not guilty to prostitution charge
KENT, Wash. (AP) Former University of Washington basketball player Venoy Overton pleaded not guilty Thursday to a charge of promoting prostitution.
His lawyer, James Bible, said Overton wants to correct misinformation in the accusation that he sent his girlfriend to work as prostitute for a share of her money.
KOMO Radio reports the King County Superior Court judge at the hearing in Kent agreed to reduce Overton’s bail from $150,000 to $25,000.
The 22-year-old Overton graduated earlier in June from the university in Seattle.
Court documents say he told his girlfriend to work as prostitute in May because he needed money, and he promised to take care of her when he signed his first professional basketball contract.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Wash. ’sexpresso’ stands may get X rating

Posted on June 30th, 2011 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

Five have opened in the past year – with baristas baring plenty of skin. And now the county is considering new regulations that would classify the stands as “adult entertainment.”
If the new regulations are approved, the “sexpresso” stands would have to post signs and check customers’ identification.
The proposal comes after the county received some complaints from the public about the stands.
But at the Espresso Gone Crazy stand near Bremerton on Thursday, the cheerful baristas greeted customers with a smile. In fact, a smile is about all the scantily clad baristas wore.
“Sex sells, and we’re the busiest coffee stand in Kitsap County,” says barista Vanessa Olson. She says sales are skyrocketing.

So he came up with proposed regulations for the county commission’s consideration – from what constitutes “lewd” conduct to classifying the stands as “adult entertainment” establishments – with no one under 18 allowed.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Two charged with first degree murder in 2010 slaying of Des Moines woman

Posted on June 30th, 2011 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

Defendant McMillon lived right next door to Walstrand in the Des Moines triplex and when police interviewed her she said she was involved in prostitution with Walstrand and identified their pimp as a person of interest. She denied any involvement and told police she was with defendant Threadgill the night of the murder. Threadgill, who works in “promotions,” told police McMillon and he had spent the evening watching television at McMillon’s grandmother’s house.

Court documents show McMillon was more forthcoming under wiretap surveillance, allegedly telling a cooperating witness when asked if she felt remorse for the murder, “I really don’t … I think about it. It was either me or (Walstrand).” McMillon went on to talk about being beaten by her pimp while Walstrand sat by and did nothing, leading to another possible motive.

Seattle Escorts: Feds Sell Seized Seattle Strip Club For $2.5M

Colacurcio — the son of a King County farmer — made a name for himself with pinball machines in the 1950s. From there he muscled his way into the jukebox and cigarette vending machine business, then built a topless and strip club empire extending to 10 Western states.
He was identified as a racketeer in hearings before a U.S. Senate organized crime committee in 1957 and periodically served time for racketeering and tax convictions.
But he remained a bane of investigators who suspected him of involvement of several contract-style murders. Colacurcio was never charged in those cases.
In 2003, an attempt to expand a parking lot at Rick’s backfired in a campaign contribution scandal that cost two Seattle City Council members their seats. That case prompted a wider inquiry — one the Seattle Police Department described as its largest-ever organized crime investigation. Over the next four years, investigators infiltrated Colacurcio’s strip clubs as customers and employees and secreted surveillance cameras in the clubs.
The resulting federal indictment included graphic details of prostitution. Colacurcio died last summer.
