When, after public input, a city-appointed panel selected the museum as its preferred alternative, opponents of the museum were pretty annoyed. We kind of already have a Chihuly museum, tucked away in our fair neighbor to the south. But with a proposal to include both the museum and KEXP, it looks like maybe we can go back to not caring quite as much about Chihuly.
John Chelminiak: Unless you were following the East Link Light Rail debate, chances are you weren’t paying too much attention to the Bellevue City Council this year — until Councilmember Chelminiak got mauled by a fucking bear. And only if you are a nerd did you think “OH NO, WHAT ABOUT THE B2 ALIGNMENT?”
Frank Colacurcio Sr.: The closest thing Seattle has ever had to a Mafia don, Frank Colacurcio, Sr. died at the beginning of this year — and the year closed with a book with his face on the cover. From the first topless bar in Seattle to, more recently, Strippergate, Colacurcio was a staple of Seattle scandal that will surely leave a hole in our vice-related news.

Officer Ian Walsh punched a teen when she confronted him while he was trying to subdue another girl who had been stopped for jaywalking. Some people said he shouldn’t have used such force. The police union president said that if anything, Walsh didn’t strike her soon enough to avoid a dangerous situation.
Walsh was cleared of wrongdoing earlier this month. The 17-year-old who was punched apologized and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in October. The 19-year-old jaywalker entered a modified guilty plea in August to obstructing a police officer.
The feds’ battle against strip club mogul Frank Colacurcio Sr. continued until his death in July, and after four years of investigating prostitution and racketeering, he was indited along with his son and four other men associated with his North Seattle company, Talents West.

Seattle-area man allegedly pimped teens
Published: Dec. 28, 2010 at 4:40 PM
SEATTLE, Dec. 28 (UPI) — A Seattle-area man has been charged with forcing teenage girls into prostitution and making them perform private pole dances in his bedroom.
Police began an investigation into Ronnie Leon Tramble, 28, of SeaTac after two officers came across a teenage prostitute in August who said she was working for him, Seattlepi.com reported. She and other girls told investigators Tramble courted them and made them feel special but changed completely once they began turning tricks for him with one saying he raped her many times and another that he “bugged” her for sex.
His house was raided and he was arrested Dec. 16. Police said they found a stripper pole in his bedroom.
Tramble denied forcing the girls into prostitution, a detective said during a court hearing.

In his confession, Ridgway acknowledged that he targeted prostitutes because they were “easy to pick up” and said he hated most of them.
“I killed so many women, I have a hard time keeping them straight,” Ridgway wrote in a statement for the court.
For his crimes, Ridgway was sentenced to 48 consecutive life terms in prison.
For the past seven years, Ridgway has kept a relatively low profile at Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla. The discovery of Marrero’s remains, however, has again thrust him into the spotlight and resulted in renewed interest among investigators.

According to the Seattle Post Intelligencer, the location where the remains were found is in the same general area where authorities discovered the remains of Marie Malvar in September 2003. Malvar, a 17-year-old prostitute, was murdered by Ridgway in April 1983.

TACOMA, Wash. – A former Pierce County Superior judge convicted of patronizing a male prostitute and felony harassment was denied in his latest attempt to secure a public defender for his appeal.
Michael Hecht, who once earned $148,000 a year as a judge, claimed that since he is now eligible for food stamps, he is too poor to afford an attorney to help in his appeal.
Hecht said he even recently qualified for an increase in his food stamp allotment to $242 a month.
But Judge James Cayce ruled Thursday that Hecht had enough assets he could liquidate, including his house and car, to be able to afford adequate representation.
Cayce also suggested that Hecht has plenty of legal experience as a former judge to be able to represent himself.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Police: Tukwila man drugged, pimped 14-year-old runaway

Now, her alleged assailant — Roger Lee Owens, Jr. — is jailed and facing child prostitution charges.

Missing since July, the girl had become “caught up in prostitution,” the nurse told police. She was arrested walking an area of Tukwila International Boulevard known for prostitution, and told investigators she was living in a nearby motel.

Owens then forced her to prostitute herself on Military Road, where she solicited drivers and had them come to the motel where she was staying, Baird told the court. Owens would then set up the transaction, the detective continued, and collect the money paid by the men who were paying to have sex with the girl.

“The defendant poses a danger to engage in similar behavior and to interfere with the prosecution of this case by attempting to influence the victim not to testify,” Sergis told the court. “The victim described threats made by the defendant to make her continue engaging in prostitution. In addition, the victim witnessed him assault another prostitute who had done something he didn’t like.”

Shawna Forde, Facing Arizona Murder Trial in January, Strategically Prefers Cell to Courtroom
The Arizona murder trial of former Seattle prostitute and Everett city council candidate Shawna Forde is set to begin in a few weeks, followed in a few months by the murder trial of accused triggerman Jason Bush of Wenatchee. Bush is thought to have admitted his role and may be seeking a plea deal, while Minuteman leader Forde has denied any part of the May 2009 slayings of Raul Flores Jr. and his 9-year-old daughter during an attempted drug-money robbery to fund Forde’s anti-immigrant fight. As part of the defense strategy, it turns out, Forde has been avoiding public appearances in court.
Yesterday, for example, she talked to a judge by phone from jail during some pre-trial proceedings. Her attorneys think that since Flores’ widow, the only surviving eye-witness to the shootings, was unable to pick out Forde from a photo lineup, the less Forde shows her face in court, the better.
