Carr returns money from strip club attorney
As PubliCola notes, City Attorney Tom Carr’s campaign has returned a $400 deposit that includes $200 from attorney Gil Levy, who represents the controversial Colacurcio family, the owners of Rick’s strip club.
The donation was made May 25, but Carr’s campaign just reported it recently. The Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission plans to fine Carr $125 for the late disclosure.
Wayne Barnett, director of the SEEC, wrote to the Carr campaign that “a major purpose of the Seattle Elections Code is to give the public timely access to information regarding all contributions and expenditures made supporting or opposing City candidates. One of the contributors whose identity was not timely reported was Gilbert Levy, Esq. Our records show that Mr. Levy’s last two contributions to City of Seattle candidates [ed. note: city council members Richard Conlin and Nick Licata] were refunded to him by the candidates. Given this history, it is unlikely that the contribution would have gone unnoticed had it been timely reported.”

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Peninsula’s history includes tales of ghosts and apparitions

Posted on October 31st, 2009 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

The ghost version has been said to prefer the second floor of the hotel, which has a colorful past as a brothel.
She has been reported by several guests in Room 4, known as Miss Claire’s room, for the “painted lady” who used to occupy the room.
Cindy Winslow has worked as a receptionist at the hotel for three years and said she has not personally experienced anything out of the ordinary.
“It’s so cozy here that you don’t think of it as being scary,” she said. “It must be a nice ghost.”
The hotel is in the Capt. Henry Tibbals building at 1004 Water St. and was built in 1889.
The identity of the woman in the large portrait, dressed in turn of elegant 19th century costume, is unknown.

The building was a haven for bootleggers during prohibition and the second floor was a brothel until 1942.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Bellevue man sentenced to prison for impersonating cop

Posted on October 31st, 2009 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

Vanapalli, 28, was arrested last year after responding to an 18-year-old Mountlake Terrace woman’s Craigslist ad offering massages. When the woman met Vanapalli at a Redmond apartment on Oct. 17, 2008, he pointed a gun at her, flashed a badge and told her she would be arrested for prostitution if she did not have sex with him, according to court charging documents.
The Redmond apartment was leased to a friend of Vanapalli’s who worked with him at Microsoft, police said.
Investigators discovered that Vanapalli had pulled a similar ploy earlier that month when he contacted an escort on Craigslist and asked her to meet him at his Bellevue apartment, charging papers said.
When the 19-year-old woman met him there on Oct. 1 he told her that he was a police officer and that he would arrest her for prostitution if she did not have sex with him for free, court documents said.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Now in Mountlake Terrace: bikini bartenders

The White Sand Bar, with its fun beach/tropical theme, is also the perfect place to have a fun birthday party or other get together. Contact us at 425-776-2300 to make your arrangements!
First in the nation might be a stretch, as a quick Google search for “bikini bartenders” shows. (Yes, I’ve got one of a few jobs that can justify such a search during work hours.)
The release from Johnny Spuds stresses that these are “tastefully dressed” bartenders. There’s no mention of that on the restaurant’s Web site, where you can see some of the outfits for yourself.
Considering that we’re barreling toward winter right now, the Herald has covered an awful lot of bikini-related news lately. Five bikini baristas were charged with prostitution last month. And some aren’t so happy about the less-is-better attitude adopted by some coffee stands.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Bellevue predator who pretended to be cop sentenced to nine years to life

For that assault and the rape of another 18-year-old prostitute days later, Vanapalli pleaded guilty in September after a jury had been empanelled against him in King County Superior Court.
Prosecutors had been prepared to argue that, in each October sexual assault, Vanapalli had played the part of a police officer looking for free sex. In each case, O’Donnell argued, the Microsoft employee threatened the teens in an attempt to coerce them.
Unlike the Oct. 3, 2008, incident, though, prosecutors had contended Vanapalli forcibly raped a teen he’d hired on Craigslist.

“The defendant’s common scheme or plan was quite simple,” the prosecutor told the court, “pretend to be a cop so he could rape young women engaged in prostitution.” Detectives in Redmond and Bellevue were able to link the cell phone number Vanapalli had given the teens to Microsoft, where company security pointed them to Vanapalli.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Forget the prostitution and harassment; we’ll remember Hecht for the soup

Forget the prostitution and harassment; we’ll remember Hecht for the soup
Published: 10/30/09  12:05 am
The guilty verdict for Pierce County judge Michael Hecht was issued Wednesday with the speed and finality of an infamous character from the “Seinfeld” sitcom.
“No soup for you!”
But Hecht’s harassment and patronizing-a-prostitute trial may be remembered most for its goofy obsession with his trips to a dirty-movie theater vending machine for a steamy snack.
There hasn’t been so much foofaraw over a retired downtown food product since Tacoma bought the rights to the sauces at Bimbo’s Restaurant.
The souped-up sideshow may help the judge land his next gig, once somebody figures out how to stop his Superior Court paychecks. Some ideas:

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Climbing with purpose

Posted on October 31st, 2009 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

My love of wilderness adventure was fostered in the Smoky Mountains near my Knoxville home from an early age. Just three years ago, on a six-week trek through Alaska, I fell in love with climbing the high mountains – snow, ice and lots of cold. In fact, en route to Alaska, it was through a window in Seattle’s airport terminal that Mt. Rainier first hooked me. I knew I’d be back.
In June, following a day of climbing in Wyoming’s Grand Tetons, I received a phone call. It was my friend Jeremy Vallerand from Seattle. He explained the Climb for Captives vision and invited me to join the team. I hung up after easily saying, “I’m in.” My Rainier dream would soon be fulfilled. I would stand atop Mount Rainier.

Our Seattle-based Climb for Captives team partners with International Justice Mission. Together, we seek to raise $40,000 so that IJM can carry out a raid to rescue 18 children from a prostitution ring in Mumbai.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Judge convicted of paying for sex

Posted on October 29th, 2009 in Seattle adult entertainment by seattlesleuth

TACOMA, Wash., Oct. 29 (UPI) — A Washington state judge has been convicted of felony harassment and of buying the services of a male prostitute.
Michael Andrew Hecht was found guilty Wednesday after a six-day jury trial, The Tacoma News Tribune reported. After the verdict, he denied any wrongdoing and said he had been set up by Morgan Armijo, a private detective, and that the News Tribune contributed to what he called “the creation of this ridiculous story.”
“I say to the jurors they were duped, and I thank them for their consideration in the matter,” Hecht said.
Hecht defeated Armijo’s father, Sergio, a longtime judge, last year. But Armijo denied any “vendetta,” saying he decided he should make information he had learned public because Hecht is a judge.
Armijo said police did a thorough investigation, talking to witnesses who did not know him or anything about him.

Seattle Adult Entertainment: Crosscut.com, Felony Prostitution, Bell Street Park

Crosscut.com, Felony Prostitution, Bell Street Park
The 1 Hotel & Residences? You can now call it the “No 1.”
The Starwood hotel chain (owners of the Westin, Sheraton, and W brands) planned the 1 to be the pilot for a new chain of hotel/condo/retail projects that would combine ultra-luxury with “green” construction and operating practices. The half-block highrise project at Second and Stewart broke ground in June 2007. Construction work stopped that August, leaving a big hole in the ground.

Felony prostitution charges were made in mid-October against Kaiyana McCloud, 28. Prosecutors claim McCloud operated a full-time brothel out of an apartment at 210 Wall St., employing as many as 10 women. McCloud was arrested at her Renton home Oct. 2, and has since been released. She has pled not guilty to the charges.

Seattle Escorts: What’s next? Hecht’s future depends on how laws are interpreted

What’s next? Hechts future depends on how laws are interpreted
By SEAN ROBINSON; The News Tribune

Pierce County Superior Court Judge Michael Hecht, found guilty of a felony for harassing a prostitute, will keep collecting his public paycheck for the moment.
That was the only certainty Wednesday, after a guilty verdict sent state and local legal analysts to their law books, searching for the answer to a straightforward question: When a judge is convicted of a crime, what happens?
There was little consensus. The debate boiled down to state law versus the state constitution.
The state attorney generals office took one position, citing state law that supported Hechts swift removal from the bench. The specific law is RCW 42.12.010, which states an elected office becomes vacant when the officeholder is convicted of a crime.
