City considers new tactic to fight prostitution

Kidnapping, rape, robbery and aggravated assault are four crimes commonly associated with prostitution. Beside the violent activity the sex trade brings to the area, it also impacts the quality of life for residents. Parents complain about prostitutes servicing customers in public and discarding used condoms along the routes children walk to school. Some female residents have reported being propositioned by men who think they are prostitutes as they walk in their own neighborhoods.
“That makes me angry,” Hensley said. “For someone to think every woman walking down the street is a prostitute, that needs to change.”
The city assigned the Stay Out of Areas of Prostitution (SOAP) designation to this part of the city. This allows police to arrest known prostitutes for simply being in the area. Hensley said this helps fight prostitution, “but only if we are conducting enforcement on a regular basis.”

City spokeswoman Kate Reardon called the revised ordinance part of an ongoing “housekeeping” effort.
“We’re eliminating gray areas, and we’re updating the language to reflect current times,” Reardon said. “We do this all the time.”

Bikini clad baristas get caught doing more than serving coffee

Five women, ages 18 to 24, were doing more than just serving coffee at the Grab-n-Go coffee stand in Everett, police said. According to Everett Police, the women were charged with prostitution last week after exposing themselves and allowing customers to touch their breasts for money, which is against the city’s laws.
As well it should be. While it is somewhat understandable what the attraction of these “bikini baristas” is to men, it has never been clear why women would stop by these places and buy their coffee.
Do women actually buy coffee at these coffee stands or are the owners losing half, if not more, of their potential customers by catering to men? They obviously make decent money or more and more of these bikini baristas would not continue to pop up, many of which seem to be showing up around Everett.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office plans to hold a community meeting regarding William Wayne Harris, who is a registered sex offender living in the 10000 block of Chapel Hill Road in Lake Stevens. 
The informational meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 at Hillcrest Elementary School in the gym (9315 4th Street SE, Everett 98205).
According to official documents, Harris pled guilty to two counts of Rape in the 3rd Degree and was given a term of 20 months in prison, suspended on condition that he do four months in jail and enter into Sex Offender treatment and obey all of his conditions imposed by the courts on March 22, 1999.
The victims in these crimes were both adult females. Harris approached his victims, who were prostitutes, while representing himself as a police officer. He had a fake badge and portable radio with him.

Five bikini-clad baristas in Everett, Washington are said to be facing prostitution charges after police received complaints that they served more than just coffee at an espresso stand.
According to Everett Police Sergeant Robert Goetz, the five women, employed by Everett’s ‘Grab-N-Go’ espresso stand, have been charged with prostitution and violating the city’s Adult Entertainment ordinance.
The police reportedly conducted a two-month investigation into the bikini-clad baristas’ behaviour after they received multiple complains from customers.
And, during the probe, the police found the baristas’ behaviour to have been lewd and inappropriate.
“For extra money these women would expose their entire body. If they were wearing a bikini they would either take it off or at least lower it,” Fox News quoted Goetz as saying.
“There were some allegations… Complaints from our citizens that they were performing whip cream shows between two women,” he stated.

We’re not at the “full body latte” stage just yet, but Grab-n-Go Espresso in Everett, Washington has apparently taken us right up to that edge with their espresso stands where baristas show skin while serving coffee. Now five Grab-n-Go baristas have been charged “with multiple counts of prostitution and violating the city’s adult entertainment ordinance.”

Detectives say the women were charging up to $80 to strip down and flash customers while fixing lattes and mochas.
Investigators saw the women expose their crotches, lick whipped cream off their co-workers’ private parts and pose naked for pictures inside the Grab-n-Go Espresso stand at 8015 Broadway, according to police reports obtained by The Herald on Wednesday.
